Students boarding busses outside Sheffield Middle High School on the last day, Sheffield PA

It was a bittersweet final day at Sheffield Middle High School, as students, teachers, and staff gathered one last time to say goodbye.

The Warren County School District voted earlier this year to close and consolidate the school, making this the last day of classes for both middle and high school students at the building.

“It’s been extremely emotional, but not just today,” said Amy O’Donnell, an academic coach at the school. “I would say the entire year—just with every type of event, sports, anything that is ending—has brought the emotions back up.”

For longtime teachers like Sarah Korchak, the day was filled with both sadness and gratitude.

“The support that we have had for the over 30 years that I’ve been here is like no other place,” she said. “And the future is bright, and the past is proud.”

Many students and staff wore school colors and gathered for photos, hugs, and farewells as they closed the chapter on a community school rich with memories.

Students will be reassigned to other schools in the district starting next school year. Though the building may go quiet, those who walked its halls say its spirit will live on.
