World War II Veteran Remembers D-Day, 81 Years Later
Donald Hurt, a WWII veteran, remembers his experiences on D-Day, 81 years later.
Hurt served in the United States Navy during World War II and while he was not in France on D-Day, he remembered getting word of the invasion and knowing that it was a turning point in the war.
Now, at 99-years-old, he is is proud of being part of the Greatest Generation, but still remembers some of America heroes that did not return home.
Hurt also said that people will come up to him and thank for him service, but he just tells them that he was simply doing his job.
On June 14, Flag Day, the Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' Home will be hosting a free concert featuring a performance from the Erie Philharmonic, where our local World War II veterans will be awarded with Pennsylvania State Senate recognition medals.
The concert starts at 1:30 p.m. and any World War II veteran who would like to attend is eligible for a medal.
