Walking for Local Non-Profits
The sun was out for many walks that benefited different causes including Highmark's Health Walk which helped ten local non-profits.
Nearly 300 people put their best foot forward for local non-profits. As David Gonzalez, the CEO for St. Martin's Center explained, "It's one of those events that provides super needed and important funding for us for our mission and without that support it makes it very difficult for us to do the work that we do."
Highmark's Walk for a Healthy Community helped ten non-profits with fundraising for their various programs. Michael Ball, the Vice President of Community Affairs for Highmark explained, "Highmark underwrites all the costs related to the event. So the non-profit can just focus on the fundraising and focus on getting the walkers and participants here."
The money raised stays in the community and helps with initiatives for vulnerable populations. As Gonzalez explained, "These funds really serve what we call a backbone support for all the work that we do, whether it's the educating kids, getting them ready for school, feeding the hungry or providing the long term services that we do, like housing and assistance. This is the kind of funding that helps supplement all that work and make sure we can keep it going at the highest level that we do."
Highmark is already looking for applicants for next year's event. People can reach out to Highmark for more information to get involved.
