Every young person deserves someone in their corner—someone who listens, believes, and encourages.

That’s the driving message behind “Mentoring 101 for the Community,” a free two-hour interactive workshop hosted by Susan Hirt Hagen CORE at Penn State Behrend.

The event will take place on Monday, June 23, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Federal House, located at 5343 Station Road, Erie, PA 16563.

Lunch will be provided for all participants.

Designed for adults from all walks of life, the session will explore how everyday individuals—whether they’re teachers, barbers, coaches, librarians, or neighbors—can become impactful mentors to youth in their community.

Participants will gain tools and strategies to build trust with young people, understand the value of everyday mentorship, and discover how to get involved with local initiatives.

Whether you’ve mentored before or are curious about how to get started, the session is open to everyone.

Registration is required and can be completed online at:

The event is part of CORE’s broader mission to strengthen youth support systems in Erie County, one relationship at a time.
