Western PA Gas Prices Drop Again as National Averages Fall
Motorists across Western Pennsylvania are continuing to enjoy a drop in gas prices, according to AAA East Central’s latest Gas Price Report.
This week, average prices across the region fell by six cents to $3.339 per gallon of regular unleaded.
As summer driving season hits its stride, national fuel prices are defying the usual seasonal uptick.
The national average now stands at $3.12 per gallon, two cents lower than last week and 32 cents less than this time last year. AAA attributes the steady decline to weak crude oil prices and a supply that continues to outpace demand.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported a sharp dip in gasoline demand, falling from 9.45 million barrels per day to 8.26 million.
Despite this drop, domestic gasoline supply rose to 228.3 million barrels. Gasoline production also declined, averaging 9 million barrels daily.
Crude oil prices dropped as well. West Texas Intermediate closed at $62.85 per barrel on Wednesday, down 56 cents. Crude oil inventories now stand at 436.1 million barrels—7% below the five-year average.
Electric vehicle charging costs remain unchanged, with the national average holding steady at 36 cents per kilowatt hour at public charging stations.
