The Painted Finch: Giving You the Business
Nestled on Center Street in the heart of downtown Corry, artist and entrepreneur Wendy Neckers is using her passion to create a space for creativity, commerce, and community connection.
Her business, The Painted Finch Gallery, is the focus of this week’s Giving You the Business report, sponsored by the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership.
Wendy, who grew up visiting Corry from Clymer, New York, now owns a gallery that showcases the work of local, regional, and national artists.
The Painted Finch features a wide variety of handcrafted art — from blown glass and watercolor paintings to woodwork and jewelry.
The pieces span a range of prices, allowing shoppers to find art that fits their taste and budget.
“We talk with the customer and find out what they are looking for and lead them to several different areas of price points,” Wendy said.
As a lifelong artist who works with drawing and oil paints, Wendy says one of her favorite parts of the job is celebrating other creatives. “I enjoy representing my artists and my favorite day is when I get to do the payouts for the work that they've sold,” she shared.
But the creativity doesn’t end there.
Just steps away from the gallery, Wendy also runs Epiphany’s Emporium, a cozy retail space offering artisan crafts, candles, minerals, art supplies, and even specialty sodas.
Customers can access the Emporium from inside the gallery or directly from the street.
“Eight years ago when space opened up on the other side of the Painted Finch, it was an area that Wendy thought could be great for smaller artisan items,” the report noted. “Everything from crafts to craft soda and more.”
Wendy said the community has embraced the Emporium’s ever-changing variety. “It’s kind of fun because the name ‘Emporium’ — we know we could put whatever we wanted to in there.”
With the help of a small but dedicated team, Wendy continues to support fellow creatives and enrich downtown Corry with art, culture, and possibility, one handmade piece at a time.
