United Way of Erie County is celebrating the continued dedication of Wegmans and its employees, whose support has become a cornerstone of the organization’s efforts to break the cycle of poverty through education.

From fundraising events like the annual Wegmans Bingo Night—which raised over $11,000 this year—to supply drives and volunteer hours in local schools, Wegmans’ involvement in the Community School Model goes far beyond financial contributions.

"We are inspired to support United Way and the Community School Model because it brings people together around a shared goal—helping students thrive inside and outside of the classroom," said Liz, Store Manager at Wegmans Peach Street.

Jana, Store Manager at Wegmans West Ridge, echoed that sentiment: "Education creates opportunity—that’s why we’re focused on helping youth by supporting Community Schools and other youth programs."

Wegmans teams have played a direct role in preparing Erie High and other community schools for the academic year and ensuring students have access to essential resources through Community School Closets.

“The support we receive from Wegmans and their employees has been long-standing and unwavering,” said Gina Schaefer, Resource Development Manager at United Way. “They are helping us Crush Poverty in Erie County.”
