WQLN Warns of Service Cuts Following House Vote to Rescind Public Media Funding
WQLN Public Media is sounding the alarm after the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to rescind federal funding for public broadcasting, a move that puts nearly 40% of WQLN’s budget at risk.
“For more than 50 years, WQLN has been a vital contributor, public safety partner, and educational resource to our community,” said WQLN President and CEO Cindy Spizarny. “I am extremely disappointed by the vote taken yesterday by Congress.”
Without federal support, the station warns that its ability to offer educational programs, emergency alerts, and community outreach will be severely compromised.
The bill now moves to the Senate, where WQLN is urging the public to take action.
Concerned residents can visit protectmypublicmedia.org to contact their senators and oppose the funding cuts.
“Yesterday was a sad day for WQLN,” Spizarny added. “We’re now strategizing how to continue delivering meaningful services with significantly less funding—but we won’t stop fighting for the community we serve.”
