Kenyatta Introduces Bill to Boost Security for PA State Officials Amid Rising Threats
In response to a tragic act of political violence in Minnesota and growing threats nationwide, state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta has introduced legislation to allow Pennsylvania’s state-level elected officials and candidates to use campaign funds for professional security services.
Currently, only federal candidates can legally use campaign resources for personal protection. Kenyatta’s bill seeks to expand that option to include state officials.
“What happened in Minnesota was an evil act of political violence—and it should shake us all,” Kenyatta said. “No one should fear for their life while serving the public.”
The proposal follows several high-profile incidents, including a fire at Governor Josh Shapiro’s residence and the attempted assassination of former President Trump last summer.
Kenyatta urged bipartisan support for the measure, declaring, “Political violence will never be tolerated—not here, not now, not ever.”
