Why Pool Water Dries Out Hair and Skin
Taking a dip in the pool is a great way to beat the summer heat, but it can come at a cost to your skin and hair.
Dr. Jennifer Lucas, a dermatologist at Cleveland Clinic, warns that pool chemicals can dry out not just skin and hair, but also affect your eyes and nails.
In some cases, they can even cause blonde hair to turn green.
To prevent damage, Dr. Lucas recommends wetting your skin and hair with clean water before getting into the pool to reduce chemical absorption.
Wearing a swim cap or using a hair mask or leave-in conditioner can also help protect your hair.
After swimming, she suggests rinsing off with gentle soap, using a rich conditioner, and applying moisturizer to rehydrate your skin.
