This August, local educators have the opportunity to set sail into history at the Erie Maritime Museum.

Sailing Into America’s 250th is a free, in-person professional development event designed specifically for social studies teachers.

Hosted by izzit.org, a nonprofit organization offering free, high-quality educational resources, this event commemorates the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.

Attendees will enjoy a full day of enrichment including:

   •A guided tour of the Erie Maritime Museum

   •Complimentary breakfast and lunch

   •A $50 gift card for attending

The event is made possible through partnerships with SPHERE (Supporting Civics Education in the Erie Region), PA Civics, the Senator John Heinz History Center, and the Erie Maritime Museum.

This unique experience is designed to provide educators with new resources and historical insight as they prepare their classrooms for the 2026 school year.
