PennWest Launches New Schools of Education, Business, and Nursing
In a major step to solidify its academic identity and expand its influence across western Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Western University (PennWest) is establishing three new academic schools: the School of Education, School of Business, and School of Nursing.
The move, formally approved by the PennWest Council of Trustees, takes effect July 1, 2025.
“These schools honor our legacy while positioning us as a next-generation university,” said Dr. Jon Anderson, president of PennWest. “They represent our deep commitment to academic excellence, student success, and the long-term vitality of the region.”
The newly established schools will:
•Spotlight PennWest’s historic strengths in teacher preparation, healthcare education, and business.
•Support student recruitment and alumni engagement.
•Boost workforce development partnerships and fundraising efforts.
Each school will be housed within its existing academic college and led by an associate dean and executive director tasked with fostering innovation and strengthening external connections.
“This is a bold and strategic move that reflects PennWest’s deep commitment to serving the people and employers of western Pennsylvania,” said J.D. Dunbar, chair of the Council of Trustees.
