A bridge repair project on Old Lake Road in Erie County is set to begin July 7, with a two month long detour planned as crews work to improve the span over Raccoon Creek near Raccoon Park.

The work is the second phase of a two-bridge contract. The first project, repairs to the Evans Road Bridge in Millcreek Township, is expected to wrap up before the July 4 holiday.

On Old Lake Road, crews will remove the current asphalt overlay and install a new concrete deck and barriers.

Additional improvements will be made to the surrounding roadway, including updates to guiderails, curbs, and road markings.

A posted detour will guide drivers along Elmwood Road, Route 5, and Eagley Road. The detour is expected to remain in place through September.

The Old Lake Road bridge, built in 1992 and rated in fair condition, sees about 80 vehicles a day.

The project is being handled by Thomas Construction of Grove City. The total contract for both bridges is valued at $784,754 and is fully funded by the federal government.
