LECOM held a ground breaking for their new Colonial Family Pharmacy on Tuesday.

Nearly a year and a half after Albion Pharmacy closed, residents will soon have a new place to get their prescriptions filled and health care needs met.

Dr. David Bodosky, a Physician with Northwestern Area Health Center explained, "When the Albion Pharmacy closed, it was kind of a crisis here in town. We have a large senior citizen housing development here in town and a lot of those folks don't drive. Albion would deliver and what that operation ceased to exist, those residents were in a hard way. "

But a new pharmacy from LECOM Health will soon help the rural community. Dr. James Lin, the President of LECOM Institute of Successful Living said, "There is a gap in terms of access to care, primary care, pharmacy, and the whole gambit and the entire service line. LECOM has made the commitment the develop and serve rural communities.

LECOM and community leaders helped break ground on the Colonial Family Pharmacy that will provide services and jobs to the west county community
Will Rogers, the Mayor of Albion said, "Losing the pharmacy was a big blow to our community. So LECOM stepping up to fill a hole is much appreciated and we know that they are a lasting organization, so we don't have to worry about them closing down or going elsewhere."

Not only will this pharmacy fill the void of no pharmacies in this desert area, but it will also be providing jobs to many pharmacists and pharmacy techs. This is something that Dr. Bodosky has seen first-hand with lots of retail pharmacies closing.

"I have several pharmacists I know that have struggled recently, along with the pharmacy techs and this will provide access for jobs to them with a good employer", said Dr. Bodosky.

The new pharmacy is set to open this fall. It will provide in-person and delivery service for customers.
