Jamestown Man Charged with Threatening to Kill Homeland Security Agent
A Jamestown man has been arrested and charged with making threats against federal immigration agents, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo.
Matthew White, 43, is accused of communicating interstate threats, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
According to the criminal complaint, investigators from Homeland Security learned in April that a social media account believed to be operated by White had posted multiple violent threats targeting immigration enforcement personnel.
In a voluntary interview on June 4, White allowed investigators to access his phone, which contained several posts advocating violence against Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and administrators.
In one post from April 18, White wrote, “Kill them all, ICE is the new age gestapo, stop them.” On April 29, he commented, “We will kill them,” in reference to agents lacking warrants. Another post referenced harming an agent and their children.
White appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy and was released under certain conditions pending further proceedings.
The investigation is being led by Homeland Security Investigations.
Authorities emphasized that the charges are accusations and White is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
