AAA: Record Breaking 72.2 Million Americans Expected to Travel for July 4th Holiday Week
AAA projects a record-setting 72.2 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home during the extended Independence Day holiday period, which runs from Saturday, June 28 to Sunday, July 6. That’s a 2.4% increase from last year and 7 million more travelers than in 2019.
“This year’s Fourth of July travel period spans two weekends, and we’re seeing strong demand for both road trips and air travel,” said Jim Garrity, director of public affairs for AAA East Central.
Mid-Atlantic Region (PA, NY, NJ)
An estimated 9.9 million people in the Mid-Atlantic region will travel, up 2.3% from 2024:
•By car: 8.2 million (+1.8%)
•By air: 938,000 (+2.7%)
•By bus/train/boat: 757,000 (+7.6%)

Transportation analytics company INRIX projects Wednesday, July 2 and Sunday, July 6 will be the most congested travel days, especially during afternoon hours.
