Restricted Swimming Advisory Issued for Beach 8 at Presque Isle Due to Elevated E. Coli Levels

Beach 8 at Presque Isle State Park has been placed under a Restricted Swimming advisory following elevated levels of Escherichia coli (E. coli) detected during routine water quality testing.
Current bacteria counts for the beach are 1486.8 MPN/100mL, exceeding the Erie County Department of Health threshold of 1,000 MPN/100mL for safe swimming.
As a result, swimming is temporarily not permitted at Beach 8. Re-testing is underway and will continue daily until levels fall below the safety limit.
The beach will remain open for non-water activities, including sunbathing and beach recreation.
This advisory applies only to Beach 8. All other guarded swimming beaches at Presque Isle State Park remain open and safe for water use.
For updated water conditions, visitors are encouraged to check with park officials or visit the DCNR website.
