Otters Select Two in CHL Import Draft

In the CHL Import Draft, the Erie Otters selected two prospects: Slovakian forward Alex Misiak in the first round and Finnish defenseman Julius Saari in the second round.
Alex Misiak is the younger brother of the former Otter Martin Misiak, who was drafted 55th overall to the Chicago Blackhawks in 2023. Alex is considered to be a strong playmaker, who has had plenty of experience at the professional level, and is coming off a successful season where he spent time in both Slovakia and the USHL. After scoring 7 points for the HKM Zvolen in Slovakia, Misiak transitioned to USHL and netted 7 goals and 11 assists in 28 games for the Waterloo Blackhawks. Additionally, Misiak had the opportunity to sport his country's colors at the U18 World Championships and the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
When asked about the excitement surround Misiak, Otter Director of Hockey Operations Scott Grieve said, "Alex is a competitive, energetic, and cerebral forward who can beat opponents both with his skill, and also his tenacity. We are excited to work with Alex on his continued development and we look forward to seeing him in an Otters uniform next season."
In the 2nd round at #93 overall, the Otters addressed the blue-line and selected Julius Saari. The Finnish defensemen is a big body who is known for his physical presence and outstanding leadership qualities. Last season in his home country, Saari appeared in 34 games for Jokerit U20, recording four points (3 goals, 1 assist) and posting a +17 rating. Similarly to Misiak, Saari has also represented his country in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and the World Under-18 Championships where he captained Finland.
Scott Grieve mentioned, ""Julius really impressed us at the World Under-18's in Dallas. He excels in the defensive zone and shuts down plays while moving pucks up ice quickly. We are very excited to welcome Julius and the entire Saari family to the Erie Otters and we look forward to seeing him in an Otters jersey next season."
