Swimming Restrictions Lifted at Beach 8 on Presque Isle
The swimming restriction issued for Beach 8 (Pettinato Beach) on Wednesday has been lifted as of 10:21 AM Thursday.
The Erie County Department of Health confirmed that water quality conditions have improved following daily testing.
The initial restriction was triggered after E. coli levels exceeded 999 colony-forming units (CFU) per 100 milliliters of water. According to county health protocols, that threshold requires posting a “Restricted Swimming” notice.
Beach 8 has now returned to “Swimming Advisory” status, which remains in place until E. coli levels fall to 235 CFU/100mL or below.
Under an advisory, swimming is permitted, though officials recommend caution to reduce the risk of illness.
Recommended precautions include:
•Avoid swallowing lake water
•Wash hands before eating
•Don’t swim with open wounds or if you're sick
•Limit water contact after heavy rains or when winds blow from the west
All other regulated swimming beaches on Presque Isle remain open and available for use.
