The U.S. Coast Guard responded to a distress situation on Lake Erie after receiving a call about two individuals in the water approximately five nautical miles north of Walnut Creek.

Coast Guard Sector Eastern Great Lakes received the call on Channel 16, the international maritime channel used for emergencies, reporting that a vessel was disabled and drifting away from two people who had ended up in the water.

Upon receiving the call, the Coast Guard immediately entered the distress phase, issued an urgent marine information broadcast, and launched rescue boats from Station Erie.

Air support from Coast Guard Air Station Detroit was also deployed to assist with the search.

During the operation, a flotation device was located, confirming that search crews were operating in the correct vicinity.
