PENNCREST School Board Candidate Charged in Erie Prostitution Bust
A Republican candidate for the PENNCREST School Board has been charged in connection with a wide-ranging prostitution investigation centered around a fitness and massage spa in Erie County.
Matthew Warren, 41, of Guys Mills, faces two counts of patronizing prostitutes after allegedly frequenting "Totally You Fitness and Spa", a business that authorities allege served as a front for commercial sex services.
His name was among dozens revealed in a June 26 press conference led by Erie County District Attorney Elizabeth Hirz and Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday.
According to an affidavit filed in Magisterial District Judge Timothy Beveridge’s office, the investigation began in 2023 after a tip was received by the Pennsylvania State Police Organized Crime Unit. Authorities say Warren was identified by a former or current employee as a client and was linked to the business through phone records and credit card receipts.
Investigators say he placed at least 21 calls to the business between 2020 and 2024.
In a police interview, Warren reportedly admitted to receiving full-body massages that sometimes included sexual activity and said his visits dated back about five years, ending roughly two years ago.
Despite the charges, Warren issued a statement denying wrongdoing:
“I unequivocally deny the allegations... These claims are entirely unfounded and are not supported by any credible evidence, because none exists.”
He added that he believed the establishment was a legitimate massage center and claimed he was seeking relief for chronic back pain.
He also said he plans to retain legal counsel and pursue legal action against the city of Erie, alleging failure to properly regulate the spa.
Authorities say 52 individuals have been charged as part of the operation. Investigators noted that none of the spa employees had valid massage therapy licenses and many operated under stage names. Since 2016, up to 30 individuals reportedly worked at the business in commercial sex roles.
Warren previously campaigned alongside other Republican candidates on a platform of transparency and traditional values. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 14
