Portion of State Street to Close July 21 for Central Bayfront Parkway Project
A key section of State Street will be closed starting Monday, July 21, 2025, as Phase 2B of the Central Bayfront Parkway Project gets underway.
The closure affects State Street from Second Street to the Bayfront Parkway, cutting off vehicle access from the parkway to the downtown side of State Street.
A vehicle detour will be posted using Holland Street, East Third Street, and the Bayfront Parkway, and is expected to remain in place for the rest of the summer.
A pedestrian detour will follow West Third Street, Holland Street, and East Front Street.
To help manage traffic and pedestrian flow, temporary traffic signals and push-button pedestrian signals will be added at:
•East Third and French Street
•East Third and Holland Street
Additionally, the pedestrian crossing at Holland Street and the Bayfront Parkway will be upgraded with audible push-button signals.
Access to waterfront businesses will still be available via Holland Street and East Front Street, or the Sassafras Street Extension and East Front Street Extension.
Temporary pedestrian access along State Street is planned for August 22–24 to accommodate crowds during the Tall Ships Erie Festival.
This phase of the project includes the installation of drainage infrastructure beneath the parkway, ahead of construction on a grade-separated intersection at State Street and the Bayfront Parkway.
