Major traffic and parking adjustments are coming to downtown Erie as the Bayfront Parkway Central Corridor Project moves into Phase 2B, prompting the closure of State Street from Second Street to the Parkway beginning July 21, 2025.

To prepare for the upcoming roadwork and maintain access and public safety, the City of Erie will implement a series of detours and restrictions starting July 14.

Key changes include:

•The Sassafras Street Extension from the West Bayfront Parkway to Front Street will close to the public, remaining open only for emergency vehicles.

•West 3rd Street, between Peach and Sassafras Streets, will temporarily shift to two-way traffic, and parking will be prohibited on both sides of the street.

No parking will be allowed on the following roads:

•West 2nd Street (Peach to Sassafras)

•East 3rd Street (French to Holland)

   •Holland Street (East 3rd to East 6th)

In anticipation of the Tall Ships Erie Festival, temporary pedestrian access will be made available along State Street from August 21 to 24 to accommodate increased foot traffic.

These updates aim to keep the community informed and allow for planning ahead of the Phase 2B construction.
