A pilot program aimed at improving amenities for paddlers on French Creek has come to an abrupt halt after a porta-potty installed at the Anselmo Boat Launch was destroyed over the 4th of July weekend.

The French Creek Valley Conservancy (FCVC) shared news of the incident on Facebook, expressing frustration over the vandalism, which they believe may have been a “prank” tied to holiday weekend celebrations. The portable restroom was placed at the site to address a long-standing issue: a lack of facilities for boaters, which has led to complaints from both paddlers and nearby landowners.

“This demonstrates how a few can ruin something for the common good,” FCVC wrote. As a result, the unit will not be replaced.

The porta-potty was part of a seasonal pilot program introduced by the conservancy in response to community feedback. The initiative aimed to offer greater comfort and sanitation for paddlers while protecting private property and the environment.

The conservancy is asking anyone with information about the vandalism to come forward. Updates may be shared via the organization’s Facebook as the investigation continues.
