Portable Toilet Destroyed in Vandalism Incident
It started as a solution to a stinky problem, but it ended in unexpected damage.
Now, a police report has been filed after an incident at the John Anselmo Launch in Cambridge Springs.
“We had heard very frequently from paddlers that there's no place to go to the bathroom when they're out in the creek,” said Brenda Costa, Executive Director. “We also had complaints from landowners that people were stopping on their private properties to relieve themselves.”
Costa said the initiative to keep the launch clean was off to a promising start—until this past weekend.
“We launched a pilot program and purchased a couple of porta potties for a few boat launch sites,” she said.
But over the Fourth of July weekend—just weeks after installation—photos surfaced showing the site vandalized and the porta potty destroyed.
Costa says it won’t be coming back—at least not at the Anselmo Boat Launch site.
“I was really disappointed. We really try to support water recreation and make this flow better for everyone,” she said.
