Salute to Area Veterans Set for July 19 at Lake Canadohta History Center
The Lake Canadohta History Center will host a special Veterans Salute this Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., featuring the Distinguished Speaker Series and a Quilts of Valor presentation honoring local veterans.
The event is free and open to all ages, with families encouraged to attend.
Two featured speakers will headline the program. Mary Jane Phillips Koenig, a Union City native, will share stories from her work documenting World War I veterans and the regional industries that supported the war.
Also speaking is Richard James Anton, author of a book chronicling the service of his uncle, Sgt. James Anton, an Aerial Engineer who died in a B-26 training accident during World War II.
Following the presentations, the Happy Scrappers Quilting Group, led by Annette Burgess, will conduct a Quilt of Valor ceremony. Patriotic quilts will be presented to local veterans Pat Coates, Danny Miller, James Miller, and Tim Roberts as a token of gratitude for their service.
Organizers hope this event will become an annual tradition at the History Center, located on Lake Road in Union City. Memberships and raffle tickets will be available at the event.
