Erie City Water Authority Receives Grant to Add Electric Vehicles and Charging Stations
Senator Dan Laughlin (R-49) announced Thursday that the Erie City Water Authority will receive $33,537 in grant funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant (AFIG) Program to modernize its fleet and infrastructure.
The funding includes $22,500 for the purchase of three electric passenger vehicles for use by the Authority’s Engineering Services Department, and an additional $11,037 for the installation of three Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations.
“This grant will help the Erie City Water Authority modernize its fleet and reduce operating costs while improving service efficiency,” said Sen. Laughlin. “Investing in updated vehicles and infrastructure is a smart move for Erie’s public services and long-term savings.”
The AFIG Program aims to promote cleaner transportation by supporting alternative fuel use and advanced vehicle technologies. Its objectives include improving air quality, reducing reliance on imported oil, and encouraging environmentally sustainable investment across the state.
The new electric vehicles will be deployed for routine service visits, and the new charging stations will support the Authority’s transition to a cleaner fleet.
A full list of statewide recipients under this round of AFIG funding is expected to be released soon.
