Erie Set to Host Youth Hockey Camp, Bass Tournaments, and Veterans Fundraiser
A busy weekend of sports and community events is coming to Erie, featuring youth hockey, competitive fishing, and a golf fundraiser for veterans and first responders.
Lake Effect Hockey will host its fifth annual Elite Camp and round-robin tournament from Thursday through Sunday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Over 60 athletes, ages 9 to 14, are expected to attend from Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Cleveland, and Cincinnati. Camp sessions run Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by tournament games on Saturday and Sunday.
The camp focuses on key areas of development including checking, power skating, shooting, and goalie training. Featured instructors include Stanley Cup Champion Tyler Kennedy and 2018 Team USA Olympian Ryan Zapolski.
PA BASS Nation also returns to Erie this weekend for its third state tournament of the season, taking place Saturday at Marina Bay. Anglers will compete for a spot in the 2025 B.A.S.S. National Tournament. On Sunday, Marina Bay will also host the second PA BASS Nation Team Trial Tournament and College Qualifier.
The Bay Frog Open kicks off Sunday evening at the Kahkwa Club with a dinner and auction at 6 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Uncommon Grit Foundation, which supports veterans and first responders. The Bay Frog Warrior Scramble follows on Monday, with a 10:30 a.m. tee time and a field that includes former Navy SEALs, special operations veterans, and NHL alumni.
