After a week of playful online guessing, the Erie Zoo has revealed its newest resident: Coconut, a Linne’s two-toed sloth.

Coconut arrived from the St. Louis Aquarium and will soon make his public debut in the Golden Lion Tamarin and Agouti multi-species exhibit, located just left of the otter exhibit. His arrival marks the first time in years that a sloth has been part of the Erie Zoo.

Known for his slow movements and tree-dwelling lifestyle, Coconut spends much of his time hanging in the treetops, sometimes even growing algae in his fur. Despite his unhurried pace on land, Coconut is surprisingly agile in water.

Zoo staff say the addition of Coconut supports their mission to connect people with nature and inspire appreciation for the natural world. His presence serves as a reminder to slow down and enjoy the wonder around us.
