State Street Closure Near Bayfront Parkway Delayed Until July 28

A change in the utility relocation work schedule has delayed the planned closure of State Street near the Bayfront Parkway in Erie. The closure, originally set to begin earlier, will now start on July 28, 2025.
State Street will be closed from Second Street to the Bayfront Parkway, restricting vehicle access from the parkway to the south or downtown side of State Street. A vehicle detour will be posted using Holland Street, East Third Street, and the Bayfront Parkway. Pedestrians will be detoured via West Third Street, Holland Street, and East Front Street.
To help manage the temporary traffic patterns, new signals are being installed at the intersections of East Third Street with French and Holland Streets. The pedestrian push-button system at Holland Street and the Bayfront Parkway is being upgraded with an audible feature.
Temporary pedestrian access along State Street is planned for August 21 to 24 to support increased foot traffic during the Tall Ships Erie Festival.
These adjustments will remain in place during the upcoming closure of the Bayfront Parkway between Sassafras Street Extension and Holland Street, scheduled to begin September 2.
Drivers will still be able to access waterfront businesses via Holland Street and East Front Street or Sassafras Street Extension and East Front Street Extension.
Additional updates to traffic and parking patterns south of the parkway will be posted on the City of Erie’s website.
