Meadville Grocery Store Helping Community
Grocery Outlet has been open since February. It’s a discount grocery store in Meadville.
“I think in 2025, finding value and finding good food, name-brand food at a great price point is pretty much what any shopper out there is trying to do,” said owner Grady Brox III.
Since it opened, the store has helped people save money. Brox has been helping people outside the store, too.
“This is the good stuff. It’s the chicken skin stuff,” he said.
They’ve donated thousands of pounds of food to the Center for Family Services in Meadville.
They have food pantries throughout Crawford County. Shawnel Toomey is their essential services supervisor.
“The relationship we have with them is just fantastic,” she said.
They’ve been able to feed more people with the extra food.
Now, Grocery Outlet is getting the community involved. They’re collecting money for their Independence from Hunger Campaign.
“As a community, [you] just come in, you do your shopping, once you get to the checkout stand, you can tell them how much you want to donate,” Brox said.
Right now, they’re about halfway to their goal. They want to make it to $2,500 by the end of the month.
“Let’s really push and lean in as a community, and let’s get to that goal so we can help feed some people,” he said.
If customers donate at least $5, they’ll get another $5 off a purchase of at least $25.
“We did really good out of the gate,” he said. “We’ve kind of steadied at a number that we see as pretty standard for this area, but we’re right on track where we want to be.”
Customers will also get to help people who need it.
“We have a few weeks until the end of the month, so let’s fight and let’s get people some food so everybody can enjoy this thing that we call America,” he said.
