New Community Drumming Circle in Erie
A group of adults with developmental disabilities is getting ready for some big performances.
It's the Barber National Institute's first community drumming circle.
It's a six-week summer camp for these adults to get out and connect with the community.
Thursday morning, they were drumming along to The Beatles' 'Yellow Submarine.’
Some were singing, too.
They have different kinds of percussion instruments to encourage independence for those in the camp.
“It’s good for all of us…to become empathetic, to be more accepting of people of all backgrounds and all abilities. This is, again, a great way to do it around music,” said Tammy Roche, strategic communication director at Barber National Institute.
The group will have two public performances. One is at noon on July 24 at Barber National Institute. The second is July 31 at UPMC’s Community Room.
