The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) is reminding students that the deadline to apply for the PA State Grant Program is quickly approaching. Students must submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by August 1, 2025, to be considered for a grant award for the 2025–26 academic year.
The PA State Grant Program supports students enrolling in nontraditional postsecondary paths such as community colleges, open-admission institutions, business or trade schools, hospital schools of nursing, or non-transferable two-year programs.
“The journey to higher education can follow many different paths,” said Senator Wayne Fontana, Chairman of the PHEAA Board. “If students need financial assistance, they should submit their FAFSA before August 1.”
PHEAA President and CEO James Steeley emphasized the importance of pursuing grant aid before considering student loans. “The PA State Grant is a need-based award that does not have to be repaid. We want to ensure students who aren’t enrolling in traditional four-year programs take advantage of this opportunity.”
The FAFSA serves as the primary application for the PA State Grant. Once the FAFSA is submitted, students will have until April 1, 2026, to complete any additional required documentation. However, students cannot access the PA State Grant application without first completing the FAFSA.
Even if a student misses the August 1 deadline, PHEAA encourages them to apply. Late submissions may still be reviewed for other financial aid options and possible state grant funding, depending on availability.
