Vigil Planned for Marchello Woodard on July 30
A Take Back the Site Vigil will take place on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 5:15 p.m. at the corner of East 27th and German Streets in Erie. The gathering is being held at the location where Marchello Woodard died on July 2.
Take Back the Site Vigils are 15-minute public gatherings organized in response to deaths in the City of Erie and Millcreek Township that are ruled homicides by the Erie County Coroner. The purpose of the vigil is to reclaim spaces where tragedy has occurred and to offer prayers for all those affected, including victims, families, bystanders, and others impacted by violence.
The vigil is sponsored by the Benedictine Sisters of Erie and Oblates, Sisters of St. Joseph, Agrégées and Associates, and Sisters of Mercy and Associates. These sponsoring groups say they are continuing to support efforts by the family and community to seek answers and call for justice.
Take Back the Site Vigils conclude with a prayer of peace and a commitment to nonviolence.
