Travel Softball Returns to Warren with Diamond Divas
Warren, PA - For the first time in five years, girls travel softball is back in Warren—and it's returning with a bang.
The newly formed Allegheny Diamond Divas have already launched three teams, ranging from 8U to 18, and interest has been so strong that organizers are considering adding a fourth.
“It’s been a long time since Warren has had a travel team,” said Adam Cassell, Founder of Allegheny Diamond Divas. “Our ultimate goal with this is to keep the momentum going, grow the team more, and make sure that these girls get a chance to play real high-school ball."
"There was a big need for a travel team here in Warren County, our girls are up against other players who have had a lot more playing time than them, so it was important for us to give them this opportunity," added Hunter Geckle, Co-founder and Coach.
The Diamond Divas have sparked excitement throughout the community, with players, parents, and coaches rallying behind the opportunity to compete at a higher level.
“This is such a wonderful opportunity for my daughter, and she is having a lot of fun," said Jessica Benjamin, parent. “It's really nice to have something back in Warren that gives kids an opportunity to play more softball."
The 12U Diamond Divas will hit the field for the first time on Friday, July 25th, at a tournament in Fort LeBoeuf.
“I'm very excited to get this opportunity to explore softball more - especially since this is the closest that it's been in Warren for a while," stated Diamond Diva 14u player, Alliesun Woodin.
"It's exciting," agreed fellow Diva, Lexie Cassell. "A lot of people who are in high school now didn't get to have this."
In addition to building teams, organizers are also looking to the community for help. The program is still actively seeking local sponsors to help cover uniforms, equipment, and travel costs.
“Our goal is for this to keep getting better,” said Founder, Adam Cassell. “We want to build a strong foundation for our girls here in Warren.”
"We are making sure that they are having fun though - it's not just about winning or traveling everywhere to tournaments," added Co-founder and coach Darren Cummings. "We want to make sure these girls learn the fundamentals and learn to love the game."
With growing momentum and plenty of support, the Allegheny Diamond Divas are ready to bring a new era of softball to the region—one swing at a time.
