Clarendon, PA - The Warren County Children’s Advocacy Center held its first-ever 5K benefit race and walk Saturday, July 26th at Chapman State Park, drawing in participants despite the humid conditions.

The "It Takes a Village", family- and dog-friendly event featured plenty of furry participants, including the center’s own service dog, Tiger, who greeted walkers and runners along the route.

“We’re very happy with the turnout and support we received today," stated Katelyn Hecei, Family Advocate at WCCAC. "It seems to have gone as smoothly as I think a race could and we can't wait to do it again."

Many participants said they didn’t mind the warm weather, especially with the uplifting atmosphere and cause.

“It's a positive feeling to be a part of an inaugural event, because you know it's only going to grow from here," said race participant, Kelly Trembley. "Plus it's an amazing cause - so we can't wait to do it again."

Chapman State Park staff were also pleased to host the event.

“I'm really happy that we were able to hold the event here," said Chapman State Park manager, Michael Plish. "It was really good to see so many come out to the park and support the Warren County Children's Advocacy Center. We are very happy to be a part of this partnership."

All proceeds from the race will benefit the advocacy center’s programming and support their goal of relocating to a larger facility.

Organizers say they are already planning to bring the race back next year.
