The month of July typically has the highest drowning deaths due to increased water activities. Our area has experienced three drowning deaths this month.  A drowning can happen in seconds. When a person is in distress it does not look like how drowning is portrayed on television. People can appear still with their head low in the water. Other signs of drowning can look like someone with their head tilted back with their mouth open, eyes may be glossy, unfocused or closed.  It is crucial to practice water safety before entering the water. Check the weather before you enter the water, never swim alone, take swimming lessons and learn CPR.
