Warren Man Battling Cancer Fights to Reunite with Family
Warren, PA - A Warren native is in the fight of his life—not only for his health, but for his family.
Jonathan Kaminski, 41, was recently diagnosed with cancer and is now in need of a liver transplant. He’s been battling chronic health issues since 2019, but his latest diagnosis has brought new urgency to a deeply personal struggle: bringing his wife and newborn daughter to the United States.
Kaminski’s wife, Daisy, and their newborn daughter are currently in Philippines, waiting on visa approval that has been delayed for nearly two years.
“We are trying to do everything by the book, but even with my diagnosis - we can't get it expedited," explained Jonathan.
Daisy, who speaks with her husband daily through video calls, says being separated during such a critical time has been extremely difficult.
“I always say to him, my husband—you need to take care of yourself while we are not together, and we will work on this until we get a visa,” she said.
The couple met in Japan several years ago. After marrying, they began the legal process of bringing Daisy to the U.S. through the proper immigration channels.
But there have been multiple hurdles that caused significant delays, and Jonathan’s health complications have since added more strain.
“We just have to keep hoping that all of it will get processed, and hopefully it will be sooner rather than later," he said.
Jonathan’s mother has been caring for him at home and says watching her son go through all of this without his wife and child has been very difficult.
“He is our only child, so this has been grueling," she said. “It's tough to go through this but we are doing everything in our power to help him and to get Daisy and the baby here."
To help cover the cost of medical treatment, the family has launched a GoFundMe campaign with the help of close family friend Andrew Stroup.
Community members have already begun sharing his story in hopes of raising awareness and financial support.
“I know it's tough to ask this of someone, to ask for help - but this is important," Jonathan said.
The family is asking anyone who may be able to help—to reach out or contribute.
