Warren, PA - The Warren County School District has approved a bid for the former Sugar Grove Elementary School building.

During a special meeting Monday night, the school board voted to accept a $75,252.00 offer from Sugar Grove residents Jay Groves and Brian Horner. The building, while no longer used for instruction, has been serving as the district's buildings and grounds department as well as warehousing.

“We’re really pleased with the bids that we received,” said Superintendent Gary Weber. “And I think it's in good hands, it's going to community members who are going to utilize it and take good care of it, and it won't become an eyesore - which is always a concern for the board."

As part of the sale, a clause in the deed restricts the property from being used as a charter school, private school, or any educational institution serving students in grades kindergarten through 12th.

During the meeting, several board members and members from the public, suggested the administration consider selling other buildings including the former Youngsville High School building.

"There was some community concern about the number of buildings that we do have," Weber said. "I looked at that, and we have talked about it - and with the consolidations it really frees us up to be able to start to eliminate some buildings as we move forward."

However, no decisions were made regarding that property or any other potential sales at this time.

The next regular school board meeting is scheduled for August 11th.
