Warren, PA - After more than 30 years, the community playground beside North Warren Presbyterian Church has been completely renovated, thanks to a six-figure investment supported by local grants and community donations.
The new playground was officially opened Sunday, August 3rd with a grand opening celebration and ice cream social, welcoming families from around the area. The upgrade was made possible through funding from the Community Foundation of Warren County, Betts Foundation, church fundraising efforts, and additional community support.
"This playground has been here since the school - so over thirty years, and it was time for an upgrade," explained Amanda Slack, North Warren Community Church Social Outreach. "We were fortunate to get several grants from local organizations and businesses in addition to public donations; over $105,000.00 - to make this a reality and we are very happy with it. I grew up in this church and right now we are going through a pastoral transition, so this upgrade comes at a time when we are trying to get new people too - so I thought this could show how accepting we are and welcoming for families and kids."
The new playground features a range of updated equipment, including spring rockers and large slides—both big hits with the younger crowd.
"This playground is great!", four-year- old Jensen Wilson commented.
"I think it's really nice because the old playground had a lot of sharp edges, so this is cool to have a new playground that is better for us," Chloe Lucas said.
"The upgraded equipment is very nice for the families, and we have also added a new surveillance system as well - to deter any vandalism or issues like that," added Slack.
The church says the playground is open daily until dusk and encourages families from across the community to stop by and enjoy the new space.
