The McKean community is rallying around one of its youngest members with a heartfelt effort to save lives. A blood drive will be held in honor of Alaina, a courageous six-year-old preparing to start first grade at McKean Elementary School, while battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).

Hosted by the Community Blood Bank, the mobile blood drive will take place at McKean Elementary on:

   •August 5 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

   •August 6 from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Alaina was diagnosed with ALL on January 16, 2025, and has endured multiple hospital stays and ongoing treatments, including several life-sustaining blood transfusions. Her story highlights the urgent need for consistent blood donations, especially for young cancer patients facing compromised immune systems.

“Alaina's story is a powerful reminder of how vital blood donations are to our community,” said Megan Solensky, Community Relations Specialist. “We hope Alaina inspires people to give blood and help us ensure that all patients have the resources they need to win their battles.”

The blood drive is open to the public, and all eligible donors are encouraged to participate. Donations will directly support the local blood supply, helping patients across Erie-area hospitals.
