Another Lake Placid Miracle in the Works
It was one of the biggest upsets in all of sports.
The 1980 United States hockey team defeated the Soviet Union 4-3 in the medal round.
Two days later, the Americans defeated Finland for the Gold Medal in Lake Placid.
Now an effort is underway to remember the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey team forever.
The mission of the group running, "Monument to a Miracle", is to put a bronzed statue of the 1980 team in Lake Placid, N.Y. by 2030.
The life size monument created by sculptor Rob Eccleston, will depict all 20 players from the iconic picture captured on the Olympic podium.
Friends of the 1980 Miracle on Ice Team Corporation is spearheading the project.
