Pittsfield, PA - Visitors to the Warren County Fair this week are getting more than just entertainment —it's also an opportunity to learn practical skills, like how to grow their own food.

Penn State Extension Master Gardeners are at the fair this week, sharing information about "Seed to Supper", a beginner gardening program designed to help individuals and families grow food using limited space and resources.

“We have discussed doing a collaboration like this for a while,” said Kent Sanden, Warren County Fair Director. “We are an agricultural fair, so it makes sense for us to promote agriculture, and when I spoke with the Penn State Extension Master Gardeners, they jumped right in."

Seed to Supper also connects with community-based organizations, like local libraries, to offer hands-on classes. The programs focus on soil preparation, planting, and harvesting, with an emphasis on accessibility.

“The point of the program is to show people how they can do this on a budget," explained Susan Witter, Seed to Supper Chairperson for Warren County. "We recommend low-cost ways to garden and have also secured some wonderful sponsors, which help us provide our classes with materials. We offer these classes throughout the growing season and if anyone is interested - they can contact the Penn State Extension Office here in Warren."

The Penn State Master Gardeners will be at the fair all week with details on upcoming classes and gardening resources.
