The Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority (EMTA) will host the Pennsylvania Public Transportation Association’s (PPTA) annual Bus Roadeo from August 8 to 11, marking the first time Erie has held the event in nearly a quarter century.

The statewide competition brings together top fixed route and paratransit bus operators to test their knowledge and behind the wheel skills through a series of written exams and obstacle course challenges. It's part competition, part celebration of the professionals who power Pennsylvania’s public transit systems.

“The Roadeo is a great way to recognize the skill and dedication transit operators bring to their work every day,” said Kim Whetsell, Executive Director of PPTA. “These professionals take pride in delivering safe, reliable service, and this event celebrates that commitment.

Jeremy Peterson, CEO of EMTA, said the organization is proud to host transit professionals from across the state. “Hosting the annual Roadeo allows EMTA to showcase not only what we do in Erie, but how wonderful this community is to our colleagues in transit across the Commonwealth.”

The obstacle course portion of the Roadeo is free and open to the public and will take place Sunday, August 10, starting at 7:30 a.m. in the front parking lot of Presque Isle Downs and Casino.
