Pittsfield, PA - The Warren County Crime Stoppers are once again bringing their Steer Dump fundraiser to the Warren County Fair—an event that’s become a crowd favorite over the years.
The group, which has been serving the community for decades with the support of the City of Warren Police and the Warren County Sheriff's Office, uses the lighthearted contest to raise money for their crime-fighting efforts, including anonymous tip lines and rewards for information that helps solve crimes.
The game works like this: fairgoers purchase tickets for numbered squares in a gps monitored and marked-off area of the Ellwood Forge Arena. A steer is led into the area, and if it does it's business on your square, you could win up to $1,000.00.
“It's a great way to get the community involved," stated Warren County Crime Stoppers, Vice President, Jeff Walters. "You wouldn't believe the number of people who come looking for these tickets each year. Then on Friday we will also get a great crowd that show up to cheer the cow on - and wherever the droppings land, that's where the money is."
"It really is a lot of fun," added Warren County Crime Stoppers Treasurer/Secretary, Kim Hall. "And it does bring in a pretty good amount of money for us."
The event has become a fast fan favorite for many, with people packing the stands to cheer on the steer as it takes care of business.
"My husband's family is from here and have always purchased tickets," stated Nancy Bower, Allegheny County resident. "I actually won last year, so I of course had to get some tickets again. It's all good fun and it goes to a great cause."
This year's Steer Dump is scheduled for Friday, August 8th, with tickets available at the arena ring until 5:00pm ahead of the event.
Proceeds from the event help support the Warren County Crime Stoppers efforts, including anonymous tip lines and rewards for information.
