Emmy-winning filmmaker and scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. will visit Erie this December.

Gates—best known for hosting Finding Your Roots and his groundbreaking work on Black history—will speak at the Warner Theatre on Thursday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m.

The event, titled Discovering Your Roots, is part of the 2025 Global Summit hosted by the Jefferson Educational Society.

Gates is a Harvard professor, award-winning filmmaker, and author of The Black Box: Writing the Race, named one of The New York Times’ 100 Best Books of 2024. He recently received the prestigious Spingarn Medal and was elected an honorary fellow by the Royal Academy of Arts.
