Warren County Family Services is opening its doors at a new location with deep roots in the community.
The agency will hold an open house Friday, August 15th from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the John P. Jefferson House in Warren. Built around the same time Family Services was founded in 1890, the home was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
"We decided to relocate from the State Hospital grounds to help with transportation for our community members," stated Nichole Neukum, Executive Director of Warren County Family Services. "A lot of people struggled to get to North Warren. Since our move, we have already seen an increase in referrals and community engagement. The community has been very supportive of the move and we are really looking forward to the open house."
“The Jefferson House has a very long history in Warren," explained Michelle Gray, Director of the Warren County Historical Society. "Built in 1890 it's been a home to the Jefferson family, and then after Alice's demise it became the Warren County YWCA. It is a pretty exciting but sad piece of Warren County history. Just the story of Alice Wetmore-Jefferson and her husband JP alone, there is romance, tragedy - a little bit of everything. I am very excited and happy to be a part of the open house on Friday, letting people know about the history of this beautiful building and the family that lived here.”
The move not only preserves a part of Warren’s history but also benefits the community.
Being closer to downtown makes services more accessible and has allowed for an expanded art therapy program, now with two licensed art therapists and a large designated studio to serve local families.
