From CelebrateErie to Erie Gives: Local Art Exhibit Showcases the City’s Heart
As CelebrateErie gears up, the city is coming alive with color, music, and imagination. From chalk art on sidewalks to murals in alleyways, Erie is showing off its artistic side—literally from the ground up.
While street art is drawing crowds, one local gallery is also drawing attention. At City Gallery, owner Steve Trohoske and artist Lee Shadeck have turned their walls into a vibrant tribute to the organizations that make Erie thrive.
"This particular art show in this particular medium basically celebrates who we are," said Trohoske, standing among more than 200 colorful paintings that line the gallery.
The exhibit features nonprofit organizations throughout Erie. "These are the things we celebrate in Erie—our past, modern-day photography, paintings of the beach, landscapes... all of it," said Steve Trohoske.
Timed to coincide with Erie Gives Day, the exhibit serves as a visual reminder of the impact nonprofits have on the region. But for Shadeck, this is more than an art show—it’s a personal mission.
"What makes me want to give back to the community is this—yes, I'm an artist, but really, I'm a therapist," he explained. "I've worked at Penn State and with nonprofits for a long time. This is my way of giving back."
City Gallery will be selling the paintings through the end of the month, with the majority of the proceeds going to the Erie Community Foundation — which will match the funds raised.
