Sheffield, PA - The Sheffield Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its 62nd Annual Firemen’s Festival August 10th through the 16th, continuing a long-standing tradition that draws generations of residents.

The festival features rides for kids, games of chance, and activities for people of all ages. Families and community members come out each year to enjoy the celebration while supporting the volunteer firefighters who serve the area.

Members of the Sheffield Volunteer Fire Department said the community turnout is overwhelming, and all proceeds from the event help fund equipment, training, and day-to-day operations.

"It's really wonderful to have the community come out and support us," stated Kaila Sinclair, Ladies Auxiliary member. "This helps us maintain equipment and other things around the department."

"It's also great to have this community morale," added Katie Sutton, Sheffield VFD firefighter. "We know people around town, but to see them coming out and supporting us, it means so much more."

Children and families attending the festival expressed gratitude for the support and the opportunity to be part of such a community-focused event.

"It's amazing," said Nadia Hulse, daughter of a Sheffield VFD member. "It's heartwarming to me to see people helping out."

Gary Lane, a former Sheffield firefighter and the festival announcer, said the event is more than a fundraiser. “It’s a staple in this community," he said. "We have a lot of community invested in it and we look forward to it every year. We actually schedule our vacation time around it, and we really do have the best fireworks show this side of the Mississippi - I mean it."

The festival also highlights neighboring departments, including Kane, which is on-site selling sausages to support their own volunteer efforts.

"It's really important for us as far as fundraising efforts go, to be involved with this festival," said Austin Fox, Kane Volunteer Fire Department Captain. "But beyond that it's also important for us to come out and support them too."

"I have been coming out and helping here for the past fifteen years," stated Dave Wheatley, Kane VFD Lieutenant. "We don't consider Sheffield to be another department, we consider them like family - we are so close that I know everyone on a first name basis."

The weekend celebration will wrap up with a parade and fireworks, bringing the festivities to a memorable close for attendees of all ages.
