Erie firefighters responded to a house fire Sunday night on East Avenue.

They were called to 909 East Avenue around 8:30 p.m.

The house is right across the street from a firehouse, where one family member ran to get help.

A family of five, including a grandmother, her family and grand kids all got out safely, including a rescued family dog.

Chief Erie Fire Inspector Don Sauer said it appears the fire started in the space between the second floor ceiling and the attic, that's where the heavy fire was.

Sauer believes it was an electrical issue involving older wiring and blown in insulation.

The Red Cross is assisting the family.
